The Evidence Is In: 7 Mindsets Improves Academic and Behavioral Outcomes

A new third-party, peer-reviewed study confirms that 7 Mindsets drives measurable student growth—and meets ESSA Level 2 evidence standards.

A major independent study of more than 58,000 students across 110 elementary schools in Hillsborough County Public Schools confirms what educators have seen for years: mindset-based learning works.

Led by Dr. Clark McKown and reviewed by Instructure, the study evaluated different levels of 7 Mindsets implementation over the 2022–2023 school year. The findings are clear and compelling:

  • Higher Achievement: Students scored better on spring English and Math assessments.
  • Fewer Suspensions: Up to a 17% reduction in days suspended in high-support (Gold) schools.
  • Better Attendance: Students in supported schools enrolled in more days of school.
  • Stronger Student Confidence: Students reported greater self-efficacy—a critical factor for success.
  • Biggest Gains for Students Who Needed It Most: Students with lower prior achievement, more absences, or behavioral challenges made the greatest progress.

The study has been peer-reviewed and meets ESSA Level 2 criteria. It’s one of the largest evaluations of a mindset-based program to date—and it proves that with the right support, mindsets drive results.
